The Boston Globe summer internship program began more than 60 years ago as an opportunity for college students interested in journalism to gain practical experience at a major news organization.
The largest group of interns works in the News Department as general assignment reporters. Other intern reporters will be hired for the Business, Sports, and Living/Arts departments. We also have intern positions in the Photography and Design departments, and on the News copy desk. Internships are NOT limited to students with journalism majors.

The incumbent captures still and video imagery in complex situations to provide executive-level support in fluid scenarios. Responsible for the daily assigned appointment schedule to photograph and support a wide variety of events, including official portraits, Senate committee hearings, press conferences, Presidential Inaugurations, States of the Union, visiting heads of state, private meetings, constituent gatherings, award presentations, as well as passport, landscape, and architectural photography. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills are required to give directions to individual subjects and groups for the best visual outcome possible. Uses experience, talent, and innovation to implement concepts for the desired results of clients by consulting and collaborating with stakeholders. The position requires considerable independence and initiative in planning, coordinating, and implementing projects and assignments. The incumbent often works independently on assignments and periodically provides informal and formal status reports on program progress.
